Thanks MB. It's funny how I got into conversation with them, I just knew that they were Christians. I love'em but feel they are being led very wrongly. I love my charismatic siblings in Christ, especially the Assembly of God friends I have, but many pentacostals chase after gifts so much they miss the full embrace of Christ.
I agree on tongues it's a gift, not one I have, but not the only sign of the holy spirit. Slain in the spirit seems to have roots in the occult, look at hindu ( and other pagan) practices virtually the same. Not to mention many pentacostals (not all) seem to be in love with their leader so the point of neglecting Jesus.

First of all, I just want to say that I don't think tongues is a sin. I just feel like not everyone has that gift. It's pretty clear, I believe in scripture, that we all have different gifts and not everyone has it. You and I agree on that point. It's so hard to know what to say to someone like this. My mom believed this stuff her entire life. She did change a lot after coming to Christ in a church like this. I know there was a lot of good that came from that. But I also think there was just so much deception and harm and a lot of the reason these churches believe things like have more faith or you'll get sick, give all you have and you'll get something...is because the Pastors are just trying to get rich. Did you see that church? There is no humble beginnings there. It's all about money. And that is what makes me the most sad. Maybe I'm being judgmental on that front, but it just appears to me like greed. Here is the things with most of this that I just can't stand...where in scripture does it say that God is going to take away all of our sufferings or that our prayers will always be answered the way we want them answered? This is what I got from the video. Sometimes people go through hardships and that is what God has placed in front of them because he is trying to change them. If we have depression, sometimes that is because God brings us low so we can see Him. If we lose someone, it isn't because we are horrible people and God is full of wrath because we forgot to utter a prayer, its because God has a plan bigger than ours.

As far as the slain in the spirit stuff, I personally think that there is something in ones brain when they are around these people, accepted by them, and listening to this (brainwashed, if you will), they become like them. It's kind of like peer pressure. I saw this video on tongues...it was kind of interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-slbAfiUxo&feature=fvsr

Just read this for the first time. Wonderful post, a lot of grace and transparency which is what I love most about it. You and I come to a lot of the same conclusions even though as a Chrsitian family my wife and I are choosing a different course of education. I really think that's the kicker, active/purposeful Chrsitian parents make a huge huge difference for their kids. Shame on the chrsitian parents who don't "train up there" kids.

I wrote a blog in response to some harsh homeschool bloggers out there, would really like your view on the things I wrote.....

I wanted to a be a punk rock star when I was a kid. I think it's a Godly thing to accept where God places you. On one side I think the culture drives us to dream things that are beyond us. I work at a middle school and you have no idea how many kids say they want to be in the NFL and be rich. But they don't practice or play on a football team for starters. Many kids want to be like the rock/rap stars they idolize but they don't sing or even practice music. They're just fed ideas left and right.

Okay on another note....want you to see this link.... I have been speaking with two christians who go to this church, yes they're pentacostal....I mean entrenched pentacostals....I've been trying to show them that toungues isn't for everyone, that slain in the spirit has NO BIBLICAL basis, and we don't have the "power" of the apostles. The apostles and prophets built the foundation of the church, their work is done because the church is built.

I know you belonged to similiar movements and came out of it. Any tips on how to approach them. There church is very very cultish.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMA_thubvI4&p=EFC0F36E1E4E1EC3&playnext=1&index=20

What do you think of your wife's blogging?

What's your favorite thing about your job?

What's your least favorite thing about your job?

If you started your own blog, what would you like it to be about?

Do you think it was dumb that I gave you guys mouthwash as a wedding present?
